From desktops to personalized pages, social networks and mobile phones, the Netvibes Universal Widget API (UWA) has pioneered the rapid distribution of personalized widgets both on the web and beyond. Today, Netvibes announces that its Universal Widget platform now supports Microsoft Windows Vista and Windows Live, and will soon support Yahoo! Widgets.

“I’m proud to announce strategic initiatives with Microsoft and Yahoo! that further expand our Universal Widget platform to now include all major widget platforms by industry leaders Apple, Google, Microsoft and Yahoo! on the web, on the desktop and on the phone,” said Netvibes founder and CEO, Tariq Krim. “The widget economy has arrived and we’re enabling widget developers to write once and run everywhere, regardless of platform or device.”

The UWA Advantage

The Netvibes Universal Widget API (UWA) is the only platform that supports all major widget platforms. Netvibes UWA carries three distinct advantages for widget developers and media companies:

1.) Desktop & Mobile Distribution: Universal Widgets built on the Netvibes UWA are instantly compatible not just with leading web widget platforms, but also with all major desktop and mobile widget platforms.

2.) Full-Featured Compatibility: Universal Widgets behave equally on all platforms and are not simply widgets displayed within generic web containers. This means that all settings and features provided by each platform are made completely available to developers and users.

3.) Automatic Translation: Universal Widgets submitted are automatically translated for all platforms and syndicated across the Netvibes Ecosystem, the web’s leading community-driven collection of widgets and personalized media. Users are given links that enable them to instantly embed their widget on all major web, desktop and mobile widget platforms.

This week, Netvibes founder and CEO Tariq Krim demonstrated Netvibes UWA’s new capabilities and announced that Netvibes Mobile has been recently featured in Apple’s Web Apps for the iPhone during the Widget Summit in San Francisco, CA.
