How to: Increase CPU performance in Windows Vista
Vista How To ... 4,887 Views Digg this Add on del.icio.usMaybe some of you didn’t know this but due to a default setting in Windows Vista your computer is set to run at 50% of its performance. In this tutorial we will help you in some easy steps to change this setting and unleash the full power of your computer.
First step is to go to Start and type Power like we did in the picture below.

Then choose Power Options, the one marked with red color. After the Power Options menu appeared select High Performance like we did and you’re done. Your computers works now at full speed!

That’s not true. The default power plan is ‘Balanced’, which has the maximum processor state set to 100%, just like ‘High Performance’.

I’ve only noticed this to be true with certain laptops. I believe on my HP laptop the default settings was Balances. But i do know for a fact that my friends Gateway was set to power saving which put it to only 50% max processor.
As for my home made desktop when i installed vista it was already using 100% of the processor.

i first did this when i got my computer, the computer was noticeably faster. because it takes up so much battery, when the comp is unplugged i turn it to the power save option, and the computer runs much much slower. so it works for me, very well infact

Is it safe to have this “High Performance” option enabled always?
