Microsoft isn’t waiting for Vista Service Pack 1 to push some important operating system updates to users.Several updates will make their way to users this week through Windows Update, Windows Vista team member Nick White wrote to the official Vista blog on Monday. Chinese PC giant Founder Technology Group has agreed to preinstall Windows Vista on laptops and desktops, closing a loophole in an earlier deal with Microsoft that potentially exempted commercial PCs from agreements to preinstall Windows.Founder and Microsoft signed a memorandum of understanding during a visit to Beijing by Steve Ballmer, Microsoft’s CEO, today. The deal, which will see Founder preinstall Vista on more laptops and commercial desktops, builds on an earlier agreement to preinstall Windows on Founder’s consumer desktop line. Founder will also sell Microsoft hardware, such as mice and webcams, in 35 Chinese cities.

Microsoft Corp. Monday said it would patch a vulnerability in third-party anti-piracy software bundled with Windows after it acknowledged that hackers are already exploiting the bug.According to the researcher who first reported the flaw, Microsoft has known of the vulnerability for at least three weeks.

For a brief time Friday, it looked as if developers were going to be able to get their hands on a test version of the first Vista service pack, which is due for final release next year.Enthusiast site Neowin noticed a posting on Microsoft’s MSDN developer site that promised developers could “Get the latest preview of Windows Vista SP1 on MSDN Subscriber Downloads.” The site also said, “This new release of SP1 addresses reliability and performance issues, and provides support for new hardware and several emerging standards,” according to Neowin.
