Microsoft: Bernstein Trims Outlook For Vista Adoption

The bad buzz about Microsoft’s Windows Vista operating system is slowing adoption of the software, according to Bernstein Research analyst Charles DiBona. The analyst this morning trimmed his forecast on Vista adoption - and as a result adjusted EPS estimates for the company accordingly.

Microsoft releases “Windows Search 4.0” for XP, Vista, Server 03, 08 and Home Server

Although Microsoft has long had ‘search’ capabilities built into Windows, the versions that were built in to Windows 95 through until Windows XP would search through files on your computer in real time, not through the mechanism of building an index on your PC that could be searched much faster. When Microsoft started talking about the successor to Windows XP, it spoke of an ‘instant search’ capability to come. Instead, Vista still took several years, while competitors such as Google, Copernic and others came out with their own local desktop search products, while Apple built Spotlight into OS X.

Microsoft To Businesses: Skipping Vista Is Bad

According to Microsoft, businesses running XP that decide to give Vista a miss and wait for Windows 7 will not only fail to benefit from the better security, lower management costs, and easier deployment that Vista offers, they’ll also face a tougher migration path to Windows 7. Microsoft recently parted the kimono just a smidge on Windows 7, but in a new whitepaper, the software giant explains why businesses running XP shouldn’t skip Windows Vista and wait for Windows 7, currently slated for release in late 2009.
