It’s been well over a year since Microsoft launched Vista, and it’s time for Microsoft to finally pull the plug on Vista Home Basic. Retailers hate it, users are annoyed and frustrated with it, and it’s outgrown any initial purpose it may have had. It’s a bit unclear why Microsoft created Vista Home Basic in the first place. It doesn’t include Aero, Windows Media Center, or Windows DVD Maker. You can easily make the argument that is isn’t Windows Vista at all. At least some Microsoft execs seem to agree. In an August 10, 2005 email Microsoft Director Rajesh Srinivasan refers to Vista Home Basic as “Windows 2006,” a clear indication that he didn’t consider it Vista.
Computer giant Microsoft announced yesterday that it had bought virtualization solution start-up Kidaro, in a move to boost sales of its Vista platform. Industry sources surmise Kidaro will join Microsoft Israel’s development apparatus. Microsoft did not disclose the price of the deal.
Mozilla says that there are over 900 bug fixes in this beta alone and has released Firefox version 3, Beta 4. The new version of its web browser also has some minor cosmetic changes, depending on whether you’re using Windows XP, Vista, Linux or Mac. Firefox 3 Beta 4 includes drastic improvements to performance and memory usage, as well as fixes for stability, platform enhancements and user interface improvements.
