Microsoft has withdrawn the offer of free copies of Windows Vista Ultimate and Office 2007 in exchange for consumers agreeing to install monitoring software, reportedly stating that it had exhausted the supply of software. Recently, as part of a new program dubbed the Windows Feedback Program, Microsoft had started offering users a free copy of either Windows Vista Ultimate, Office Ultimate 2007, Money Plus Premium, Encarta Premium, or Streets and Trips. As per news reports, the offer was scheduled to end on December 31, 2007.
Microsoft this week stopped offering customers free copies of Windows Vista Ultimate, Office 2007 and other software in exchange for letting Microsoft collect performance and usage data from their PCs. Originally slated to run until the end of the year, the giveaway was part of the Windows Feedback Program, which Microsoft says is aimed at improving the Windows user experience.

Microsoft has released a detailed roster of the contents of its forthcoming service pack for Windows Vista, and the list includes more than 300 hot fixes covering everything from data protection to video performance.The list, recently posted on Microsoft’s Web site, can be downloaded as a 47-page document that the company says is not exhaustive. Microsoft plans to add more fixes and patches to Windows Vista SP1 before a final version is released to the public early next year.
Windows Vista Service Pack 1 RC includes all previously released updates for the operating system. This update also includes a small number of new functionalities, which do not significantly change customers’ experience with the operating system.
It seems that with Apple’s move to Intel processors, the gulf that has separated Mac and PC users for decades has finally closed, with the Mac now a compelling choice whether you want to run Mac OS X, or Windows – or both. PC World magazine recently declared the MacBook Pro the fastest laptop for running the new Windows Vista operating system.
